Union organizer versus farmer in state Senate district race

The Redding Record Searchlight profiles the two candidates for California's state senate district four, currently occupied by Republican Sam Aanestad, a Grass Valley oral surgeon.

Senate District 4 includes Lincoln and Rocklin. The candidates are Lathe Gill, a union organizer and attorney, and Butte County farmer and former Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa. The race is LaMalfa's to lose considering the district is overwhelmingly Republican. It also doesn't hurt that LaMalfa has been campaigning and traveling the district for more than a year. Most voters are probably going to ask: "Lathe Who?" I guess you could say Lathe Gill has been more of a sacrificial lamb for the Democrat Party than a real candidate.
