Frequent flyers rejoice: Airport delays are on the decline

US Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced that tarmac delays have dropped by 98 percent over last year. In 2009 there were 66 delays while there has been only one this year.

LaHood said in a blog "The tarmac delay rule the Department of Transportation put into action on April 29 appears to be making the difference we intended to protect airline passengers. And I'm pleased to see that there have been few unintended consequences."

LaHood said that's what he calls "a dramatic improvement."

Luckily for Placer County travelers, Sacramento International Airport, which served nearly 9 million passengers in 2009, is not generally known for extended tarmac delays like larger airports.
