McClintock's bid to slash airline subsidies crashes

A House vote on Tuesday killed a bid by Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Rocklin, to slash the Essential Air Service program, which subsidizes flights to 120 communities in 35 states in the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico and 43 towns in Alaska.


McClintock failed to garner support from a handful of Republicans -- many who represent rural communities that rely on small carrier air service.
