LaMalfa bill would exempt older cars from CA smog testing

California drivers who own vehicles built between 1976 and 1980 could find relief from smog testing if a bill by Sen. Doug LaMalfa is approved.

Senate Bill 1224 serves two purposes, according to LaMalfa: It would provide relief to lower income drivers who own vehicles from the '76-'80 period, and enable car collectors to enjoy the exemption since their vehicles are rarely brought out on the roads and consequently do not contribute to air pollution.

California law already exempts vehicles built prior to 1976 from smog inspection.

Linda Park nixes Assembly run against Beth Gaines, Andy Pugno

Linda Park, a Roseville Joint Union High School District board member, announced today that she will not run for the 6th Assembly District seat.

That means the 6th Assembly race comes down to two viable Republican candidates: incumbent Beth Gaines and Sacramento attorney Andy Pugno, the author of California's Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California.

Democrat Reginald Bronner is also running in the heavily GOP district. But with Park dropping out, and therefore reducing the Republican vote to two candidates, Bronner has less of a chance of making the top two candidates and going on to the General Election in November.
