Fox News is wrong: Rocklin is not pursuing smoking ordinance

“The media continues to perpetuate a story based on misinformation presented by FOX News.

“The story on FOX News is in error. A citizen did step forward at our last City Council meeting and did ask for an ordinance to ban outdoor smoking. The City of Rocklin did listen and ultimately directed the citizen to the State of California Air Resources Board (ARB).

Franchising Conference to be Held Friday at Thunder Valley is Now Free

A franchising conference to be held Friday, March 2 at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln is now being offered free of charge.


The conference will take place from 7:30 a.m. to noon. It is sponsored by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).


The target audience includes anyone interested in owning a franchise business in Placer County. Organizers initially planned to charge a registration fee, but are making it a free event thanks to generous support from sponsors.

Public Works’ Tahoe Engineering Division Earns Award From TRPA

With a long list of completed projects and current projects in the works, one of the Department of Public Works Tahoe Engineering Division recent projects was awarded a Best in the Basin Award by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). 

The annual award was given for the Lake Forest Erosion Control, Stream and Habitat Restoration Project.

Agreement Ensures Funding For Auburn State Recreation Area

The future of one of Placer County’s recreational jewels has been secured through the efforts of Placer County Supervisor Chairwoman Jennifer Montgomery as well as many local, State and Federal partners, when the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and California State Parks agreed to a deal that will guarantee funding to maintain the Auburn State Recreation area for the next 25 years.

Tahoe Fund Considering Helping bike paths, restoration projects

The non-profit Tahoe Fund is working with Tahoe’s public and nonprofit agencies to develop its funding priorities for the next year.

The Fund has a 10-year goal of raising and distributing $50 million to restore and enhance the Lake, including work on Nevada and California bike paths, hiking trails, restoration projects, interpretive programs, public parks and related projects.

Good catch: Rocklin PD may have captured 'Frisbee Bandit'

Rocklin Police Department busted a man last Friday for burglarizing a home in the 5200 block of 4th Street in Rocklin. The homeowner reported that a man had just run out of his house having stolen the homeowner’s large caliber handgun, which was loaded.

Placer County Sheriff benefits from Thunder Valley Casino contribution

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has acquired tools and equipment thanks to a grant from the Thunder Valley Casino.

A small, high-tech, remote-controlled robot camera and eight self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units will enable the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) to better respond to threats in multi-story structures, according to a statement released by the sheriff today.

Roseville Police detectives today arrested Christopher Jon Michael Northam, 25, of Sacramento on a Placer County Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with the murder of his father, Christopher D. Northam.

Vail Resorts announced today that it acquired Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Vail Resorts will now operate three  mountain resorts in the Lake Tahoe region, including Northstar California, Heavenly Mountain Resort,  and now Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

It's all about the Benjamins: $100 bill counterfeiter sought by Placer Co Sheriff

Placer County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman who has been passing counterfeit $100 bills throughout the county.

The woman was captured on surveillance videos in different businesses, passing the bogus bills. The bills look authentic and have the stripe printed on them so that when a clerk holds it up to a light source, the stripe and watermarks show up. But the back of the bill has the stripe and watermark clearly printed on it.

Lincoln Transit increases fares March 1

Effective March 1, 2012, the Lincoln Transit System will be raising its rates. The decision to increase the rates is a result of three factors: The agency's efforts to stay consistent with local regional transit systems; their efforts to stay in compliance with fare box requirements; and the decrease of grants and subsidy distributions over several years.

Placer County filmmaker highlights Transcontinental Railroad

The Transcontinental Railroad has long been a source of wonder and awe. Documentary filmmaker and Placer County resident Bill George will present his 30-minute film on the Transcontinental Railroad from Sacramento to Donner Summit on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the second floor of the Bernhard Museum Winery.


He will follow with a brief presentation on the history of the railroad and the making of the film. The program is free.

Lincoln to hold Spring Clean Up 2012

The City of Lincoln will hold its Annual Spring Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the west side of the Lincoln Regional Airport. A notice will be sent out with the April bill with more information and a map.

Daytime Burglar Caught by Rocklin Police after Extensive Foot Chase

After an extended foot chase, a Rocklin resident was arrested today after he ran from the scene of a residential burglary according to Rocklin Police Department. Casey Proctor, 23, led cops on a chase through back yards and a golf course near Stanford Ranch abd Sunset roads. Police K-9s and aircraft assisted in the search.

Sign stealer seized by Placer County Sheriff

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man who stole and destroyed the Ophir state historical marker. The marker, made of solid brass, was also recovered but it was cut into many pieces and all of the writing was destroyed by a grinding tool.
